City of Mississauga’s Fair, Competitive Offer Rejected by Library Union

Local government | July 3, 2016

The City of Mississauga, the Mississauga Library Board and CUPE Local 1989 have been in negotiations since June 12, 2015. Since the outset of negotiations, the City’s goal has always been to achieve a collective agreement that is fair and competitive to our employees and our taxpayers. The City offered the Union’s bargaining committee wage increases and benefit improvements, but CUPE 1989 rejected the offer and have opted to strike.

All City of Mississauga Libraries are closed July 4 until further notice, due to a strike by CUPE 1989.

While Libraries are closed, late fees will be waived and the following Library services are available:

  • Check out eBooks & eAudioBooks, eResources, eMagazines and free music
  • Continue to renew your items online (please do not drop off any materials at the Library)
  • View the online catalogue
  • Manage your account online

The Library will continue to provide timely updates to its customers online at mississauga.ca/library.
