Council Approves Funding for 2014 Grant Programs

Today, Mississauga City Council approved more than $2.8 million in funding for the Arts and Culture, Cultural Festivals and Celebrations (CFC), Recreation and Sport and Environment Grant Programs.

“Our cultural grant programs support not-for-profit arts, culture and heritage groups and festivals in Mississauga,” said Paul Mitcham, Commissioner, Community Services. “Cultural activities are one of the key reasons why people choose to live in and visit our city. The City’s priority is to make grants available to help maintain and develop local talent and to nurture new arts and cultural groups and festivals.”

Mitcham says community grant funding exists so that groups can work with the City to provide Mississauga residents with much needed programs, services or projects.

According to Mitcham, through the City’s recreation and sport granting programs and environmental granting program, the City of Mississauga is building professionalism, accountability and sustainability within the local neighbourhood and community.

City Council has also approved a plan to make Pan Am Games-focused applications a priority in 2015 allowing a maximum of $5,000 per project.

“This funding will encourage Mississauga’s arts and culture groups to create projects related to the Pan Am Games,” said Mitcham. “This momentum will lead to continued excitement about the games for our all residents.”
