Local government | September 29, 2014

If you are a Canadian citizen who is at least 18 years old on October 27, 2014, you can vote in the Municipal Election. It is your right.

If you don’t have a permanent address or the kinds of identification cards that most people have, you may not think you can vote.

There are many types of documents that you can use for ID on Election Day.  Even if you don’t have a permanent address if you are eligible, you can vote.

Voting if You Don’t Have an Address
To vote in Mississauga, you need to live in Mississauga. Sometimes that means owning or renting a home. Business owners can also vote if they own or rent a place in Mississauga.

If you don’t have a permanent address, you can still vote in the Municipal Election on October 27. You are living in Mississauga if you stay at a friend’s place or live in a shelter in Mississauga.

Where you sleep most often in the five weeks before Election Day is where you can vote. There is a document you will need to fill out to show that you live in Mississauga. Call the City at 905-615-VOTE (8683) for help.
