Mayor Carolyn Parrish presented the Key to the City to local grocery store owner Daniel Nedelko for his generous donations to the Malton Youth Hub since the beginning of 2025. Nedelko received the key during yesterday’s Council Meeting, which started with a deputation from Amenah Gangat, Malton Youth Hub, Youth Advisory President.

Nedelko, the owner of Mississauga-based Daniel’s No Frills supermarket, offered his assistance at the start of this year after learning about the community’s need for fresh and nutritious food for more than 400 youth who receive breakfast, lunch and after school snacks daily through the Malton Youth Hub.

The Hub’s daily food program directly addresses food insecurity among underserved youth in Malton. More than 90 per cent of those using the program are from Black, South Asian, Asian and other visible minority backgrounds.

Nedelko started by donating a vanload of goods, which quickly increased to a weekly partnership in which Daniel’s No Frills donates two to three vanloads of fresh fruit, eggs, dairy and meat products to the Malton Youth Hub – Jonathon Davis Centre.

Quote

“Daniel Nedelko’s generosity is truly inspiring. What began as a single donation after learning about the Malton Youth Hub has grown into a weekly contribution that is making a remarkable impact on the lives of the young people served by the Hub. I’m proud to recognize Daniel and his entire No Frills team for their selflessness and dedication to building a healthier, more equitable Mississauga for all.” – Mayor Carolyn Parrish

About the Key to the City

The Key to the City of Mississauga is Mississauga’s most prestigious form of recognition. It is reserved for and bestowed upon esteemed community members, former residents and visitors whom the Mayor wishes to honour. It is a sign of great achievement and distinction, and is given to individuals who have positively impacted and changed our city for the better. While primarily symbolic, the key signifies trust and freedom for the recipient to enter in and out of the city as they wish, knowing that Mississauga will always be their home.
