Meadowvale Theatre Closing for Renovations Until Summer 2022

City services | May 20, 2021

The stage is set for Meadowvale Theatre to receive a much needed makeover. Starting May 21, the theatre will close temporarily for renovations. The renovations will help transform the theatre into a more modern, inspiring and accessible space. The theatre is planned to reopen in summer 2022, after renovations have been completed.

“Meadowvale Theatre is a vibrant hub that has been a part of Mississauga’s arts and culture scene for over 30 years,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “I’m so glad that the theatre is getting updated and enhanced, so that it can better serve theatregoers as a place to experience our vibrant performing arts community.”

The renovation will help modernize Meadowvale Theatre. It also supports the goals of the City’s Culture Master Plan to enhance and improve cultural spaces, grow and support the creative industry and enable high quality cultural experiences.

“Meadowvale Theatre is an important part of the Ward 9 community and has been a cultural hub for all of Mississauga for more than three decades. It has offered affordable, accessible arts and cultural events to the community,” said Pat Saito, Ward 9 Councillor and member of the Meadowvale Theatre Community Advisory Panel. “Thank you to the community stakeholders who were part of the engagement process. We listened to your feedback and are excited to create a new space that will provide access to increased and diversified events, including educational workshops and performances.”

Meadowvale Theatre has been closed for over a year, due to the pandemic. This will be the first update to the theatre since it opened to the public in 1989.

“We are excited that this renovation will help to expand access to the theatre and create more opportunities for performing arts in the city,” said Paul Damaso, Director, Arts and Culture. “This renovation also addresses the aging state of the theatre, including improving accessibility, facility signage and energy efficiency.”
