Mississauga First Municipality in Ontario to Support Crohn’s & Colitis GoHere App

Local government | April 5, 2016

The City of Mississauga is committed to making its facilities accessible and comfortable for everyone who visits. That is why the City has partnered with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada to supply all facility washroom locations for its GoHere Washroom Finder App, making it the first municipality in Ontario to do so.

“People must be free to live their lives without worrying about not being able to use a washroom, which is why it is so important to make it known that all of our facilities are open for all residents and visitors to Mississauga,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “I am proud to support Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s Go Here Washroom Finder App and the comfort it gives to people in our community and I hope that it encourages other organizations and businesses to follow suit.

The GoHere app now features 73 Mississauga facility washrooms accessible to the public. To learn more about the City’s commitment to accessibility, visit mississauga.ca/accessibility.

Crohn’s and Colitis Canada encourages local businesses in Mississauga to follow the City’s lead and open washroom access to the public. Businesses can join the program by ordering free GoHere decals to post on their storefront windows at go-here.ca.

About the GoHere Washroom Finder App
The GoHere Washroom Finder App identifies the closest available washrooms anywhere across Canada. Users can add new locations, rate and comment on existing ones and even find washrooms en route to a destination.

About Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are life-long medical conditions that are hidden disabilities requiring urgent access to a washroom. When in flare-ups, these diseases cause inflammation within the gastrointestinal tract. Washroom access is a key priority since people experience frequent and urgent bowel movements, averaging from five to more than 20 times a day.
