Mississauga is Ready to Host the Ontario Summer Games and You’re Invited!

The 2022 Ontario Summer Games will roll into town this week and will include an Official Opening Ceremony and free concert featuring the MONOWHALES.

The opening ceremony will take place at Mississauga Celebration Square (MCS) this Thursday, July 21, 2022. All are welcome on the Square to cheer on the accomplished athletes and take part in the festivities.

The Opening Ceremony marks the start of a two-day athletic competition where approximately 3,500 participants ages 12 to 18 will compete in 16 different sports including archery, rugby and canoe kayak sprint. The opening ceremony will also feature live remarks from Mayor Bonnie Crombie, and The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and greetings from Gimaa (Chief) Stacey Laforme of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. The event will also include a traditional smudging by Kim Wheatley, Anishinaabe Ojibway Grandmother, and greetings from Games Co-Chairs, Janet Leung and Natalie Wideman – accomplished Olympians and Team Canada athletes. The evening will end with a headline performance by the MONOWHALES.

About the Ontario Summer Games
Mississauga was originally named host city of the Ontario Summer Games in December 2019. The games takes place in Mississauga from July 21 to 24, 2022. Approximately 3,500 participants ages 12 to 18 from across Ontario will compete in 16 different sports. The Ontario Summer Games is supported by the Ontario Government, through its Games Ontario program.
