Mississauga Kicks Off National AccessAbility Week

The City of Mississauga is kicking off National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) from Monday, June 3 to Friday, June 7.

The City of Mississauga is kicking off National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) from Monday, June 3 to Friday, June 7, featuring a series of events and activities to highlight the many services and programs available to people with disabilities.

Accessible Pedestrian Signals at Celebration Square
Monday, June 3

Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) will demonstrate how to use the new audible pedestrian signals on Mercer Ave.

Accessible Bus Demonstrations at Celebration Square
Tuesday, June 4

Board a MiWay bus and see the various features that make them accessible. This event is held in partnership with CNIB.

Older Adult Expo at South Common Community Centre
Tuesday, June 4

Learn about the City’s fitness and technology programs and visit more than 80 exhibitors focused on older adult health and wellbeing. At 1:30 p.m., join members of the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) in the upper lobby to learn more about accessibility in Mississauga. Speakers include Councillor Matt Mahoney and AAC Chair, Naz Husain.

Background:

The City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee was formed in 2003. The group’s mandate is to advise, recommend and assist the City in promoting and facilitating a barrier-free Mississauga for people of all abilities, including persons with disabilities. There are 10 citizen and stakeholder members on the committee who are joined by two Council Members – Ward 8 Councillor Matt Mahoney and  Ward 9 Councillor Pat Saito.
