Statement from Mayor Carolyn Parrish
Local government | June 20, 2025
It is with deep sadness that I along with all Members of Mississauga Council and the City of Mississauga acknowledge the passing of Emil V. Kolb, our former Peel Regional Chair at the age of 89.
Emil’s journey from farmer to longest-serving Chair of the Region of Peel exemplifies his integrity, dedication, and leadership. Whether he was navigating competing municipal priorities or addressing the challenges of a growing region, his commitment to not only getting the job done but doing it efficiently and with collaboration from all those on Regional Council remained steadfast.
As a Mississauga Councillor, I had the privilege to sit alongside Emil as we worked collectively at Regional Council to plan programs, services and infrastructure projects that laid the groundwork for today’s Peel Region. He was always a champion for sustainable growth, multi-modal transportation, and the creation of accessible public spaces. Emil was also a dedicated long-serving Chair of the Peel Police Services Board and committed to public safety.
Serving first as Mayor of Caledon and then Chair of Peel Region, Emil had a long career in government. Many may remember his partnership with our late former Mayor, Hazel McCallion. Both served long tenures with a truly shared passion for public service.
We will lower the flags at Mississauga City Hall to half-mast, paying tribute and remembrance to Emil’s invaluable contributions to Mississauga and Peel Region.
On behalf of myself, the Members of Council, and the City of Mississauga, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Beryle and the entire Kolb family, his friends, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his decades of remarkable public service.
