City services | July 22, 2014

For the 14th consecutive year, Mississauga has been named one of the safest cities in Canada based on research conducted by Safe City Mississauga.

“Through our partnership with Safe City Mississauga, we continue to reduce crime year after year,” said Mayor Hazel McCallion. “It is part of what makes our city a great place to live.”

“As an organization, we are proud to partner with Safe City Mississauga.” said Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer.  “They play an important role in helping us maintain a quality of life that Mississauga residents and visitors appreciate.”

The study was based on 2012 crime rates.  Compared to other Census Metropolitan Areas across Canada, Mississauga has the lowest overall crime rate and one of the highest percent decreases from 2011.  In 2012, Mississauga’s crime rate (2,582) decreased by 5.6 per cent from 2011, and by 18.6 per cent from 2008.
