Mississauga Ranks in Top 20 For Best Business Locations in Canada for Sixth Consecutive Year

Business and innovation | September 28, 2022

For the sixth year in a row, Site Selection magazine has ranked the City of Mississauga’s Economic Development Office (EDO) in the top 20 local and regional groups who work to position their municipalities as one of Canada’s Best Locations. The ranking is based on corporate end-user facility investment, job creation data and the magazine’s own research.

“Our consistent top ranking demonstrates that Mississauga is an economic engine for the province and the country. We remain a prime location for business and investment, and our pathway to recovery is paved in strong economic growth and responsible spending,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Our Economic Development team has done an outstanding job in creating an environment where businesses of all sizes can grow, scale and thrive. Our highly-skilled workforce, diverse population and strategic location in the heart of the GTHA make us an ideal location to attract and retain businesses that contribute to our highly-diversified economy.”

The 2022 results are based on data from January 2021 to June 2022, including:

  • The number of new facilities and expansions per capita
  • Project capital investment per capita
  • Job creation per capita
  • Subjective analyses of website resources, programming and outreach efforts

“Receiving this recognition from Site Selection validates that we are doing the right things to attract and support the growth and longevity of businesses,” said Bonnie Brown, Director, Economic Development. “The Economic Development team, with the support of Council, remains committed to providing our business community with the programs and resources needed, while continuing to build upon the strategic priorities that will guide the city’s path towards sustained economic prosperity.”

Mississauga has the right assets that businesses need to grow. From access to a strong and connected supply chain, to international market connectivity, to a large talented workforce, Mississauga continues to be a choice destination for world-class companies including these recent investments:

  • Bombardier
  • KMX Technology
  • Cyclone Manufacturing
  • GSK Canada
  • BoomerangFX

To support a growing and sustainable economy, the City is helping to shape dynamic mixed-use communities that create new development and employment opportunities including:

  • Downtown Mississauga, a dynamic urban neighbourhood with over 18 million planned square feet of development including office development;
  • On the waterfront, Lakeview Innovation District, as part of the 177-acre Lakeview Village, that offers over 1.5 million square feet of available employment space that will create up to 9,000 new jobs.

Being among Canada’s 10 largest cities, Mississauga is the only one that ranks number five or higher in industry size and concentration across seven key sectors:

  • Aerospace
  • Automotive Manufacturing
  • Food & Beverage Manufacturing
  • Finance
  • Information & Communication Technologies
  • Life Sciences
  • Smart Logistics

Mississauga’s diverse business community is a major contributor to Canada’s ranking within these sectors. Mississauga is the second largest life sciences sector in Canada (by employment); the largest aerospace sector in Canada (by employment and number of businesses) and is the future home of Bombardier’s Global Manufacturing Centre.
