Mississauga Ready to Apply for Two Federal Funding Programs

Mississauga City Council has approved a list of City projects to be submitted for consideration under two Government of Canada funding programs: Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF) and Clean Water Wastewater Fund (CWWF).

“City Council and staff work hard to ensure Mississauga is well positioned and ready to put forward projects that align to these types of funding programs when they come forward. We have been working hard to ensure Mississauga is at the table with both the federal and provincial governments when decisions about how funding will be delivered are being made,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie.  “These types of infrastructure funding investments are important and help us build strong, vibrant communities and a transit and transportation system that is convenient and reliable for those who live and work here.”

According to the funding criteria outlined by the Government of Canada for the programs:

• PTIF will help accelerate short term investments to support the rehabilitation of transit systems. It will also assist with studies for long-term transit expansion plans.
• CWWF will help accelerate short-term community investments and support the maintenance and planning of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. The City of Mississauga is only eligible for stormwater projects under the CWWF program.
• Both the PTIF and CWWF funding programs are cost-shared. Under PTIF, the Government of Canada and the City of Mississauga would each contribute $58,315,508. Under CWWF, $6,575,526 will come from the Government of Canada. The Province of Ontario and the City of Mississauga will each contribute $3,287,763.
• Eligible funding categories for PTIF include projects that rehabilitate, modernize, improve and expand public transit and active transportation infrastructure, such as: buses, storage facilities, transit stations and systems, trails, and sidewalks.
• CWWF funding eligibility includes improvements of stormwater infrastructure and projects.

“Thanks to our deliberate and detailed process for preparing the City’s capital budgets, we are able to respond quickly and put forward a list of projects for Council’s consideration,” said Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “These opportunities benefit the City of Mississauga and recognize the importance of maintaining and improving our current infrastructure and systems.”

Applications for PTIF must be submitted no later than October 18, 2016. CWWF applications must be submitted no later than October 31, 2016.
