Mississauga’s Finance Division recognized for excellence in Financial Reporting

Today at Council, the City of Mississauga’s Finance Division was presented with an award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recognizing excellence in financial reporting.

For the 16th consecutive year, the City was awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for the 2012 Financial Report.  The award is presented to municipalities that prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.

“This award speaks to the work staff and Council do to achieve excellence in financial planning and reporting for the City of Mississauga,” said Gary Kent, commissioner of Corporate Services and CFO.  “This high standard of performance shows our continued commitment to providing high quality and comprehensive information to our residents.”

Background

The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving 17,500 government finance professionals throughout North America. The purpose of the Government Finance Officers Association is to enhance and promote the professional management of governments for the public benefit by identifying and developing financial policies and best practices and promoting their use through education, training, facilitation of member networking, and leadership.
