Many people ask, “Why should I vote?” Others feel their vote does not matter. But decisions made at City Hall affect your daily life. When you vote in a municipal election, you help decide what matters most in your neighbourhood and city. When you vote, that means elected officials reflect the people who live in Mississauga.

What you’re voting for

Mississauga’s next municipal election will take place on Monday, October 26, 2026. Voters will elect the Mayor and 11 Councillors to serve during the 2026 to 2030 City and Regional Council term. Each Councillor represents a specific ward and focuses on local issues that affect nearby neighbourhoods and communities.

When you vote, you will elect:

  1. The Mayor of Mississauga
  2. Your City/Regional Councillor
  3. School Board Trustees

Voter turnout has been low

In Mississauga, fewer people have been voting in recent municipal elections. When fewer residents vote, a small number of voters end up deciding who represents the entire city. It’s important that every voice is heard. Higher participation helps strengthen trust, improve decision-making and ensures more voices are represented.

Why representation matters

Every four years, residents have a chance to help shape Mississauga’s future. Voting is one of the most direct ways to have a say in decisions that affect your daily life.
Voting chooses Mississauga’s Mayor, your City/Regional Councillors and School Board Trustees who make decisions about services you use every day, even if you do not notice it.

When you leave your home, you are using services shaped by City Council decisions.

The City provides many services, including road repairs, snow removal, transit stops, parks, and recreation programs. These are all planned and managed by the people you elect.

City Council makes decisions that influence how neighbourhoods grow and how services are delivered across Mississauga.

Looking ahead to Mississauga’s next election

As the 2026 Municipal Election gets closer, your participation matters more than ever. Every vote helps strengthen the community’s voice and makes sure decisions reflect the people who live here.

Voting is one of the most direct ways to take part in shaping Mississauga’s future. Change does not start with someone else. It starts when you show up, speak up, and vote. Every eligible voter has the power to help shape Mississauga’s next chapter.
