MiWay Legacy Continues at Stephen Lewis Secondary

Local government | May 28, 2014

Today, council recognized two students from Stephen Lewis Secondary School: it’s the second year in a row students from this school were named MiWay Student Ambassadors of the year.

“This year’s winners of the MiWay Student Ambassador Program are Nikhita Kapoor and Nareshri Babu from Stephen Lewis Secondary School,” said Geoff Marinoff, director of Transit.

“Their dedication to educate students about MiWay was done in a fun and interactive way, and their use of social media and the school website was exceptional.” Geoff Marinoff, Director, Transit.

Now in its fourth year, the MiWay Student Ambassador Program has doubled from 11 secondary schools in 2010 to 22 this year.

The students are required to host and design three information tables about

  •  MiWay trip planning
  •  PRESTO  (a GTA-wide, electronic fare card for public transit)
  • Mississauga Transitway

As part of the program, students are also asked to include a creative part that will appeal to their fellow students.

Kapoor and Babu taught their peers about MiWay through trivia-based scavenger hunts, weekly draws, and a MiWay-themed arcade game day. As this year’s winners, they will each receive free transit for one year, and an iPad. Their school will also be given 100 free student transit tickets.
