MiWay Offers Free Rides to Veterans on Remembrance Day

City services | November 3, 2016

MiWay offers Canadian Forces Veterans and their companion free rides on Friday, November 11 for Remembrance Day.

“Our veterans are our heroes. Their courage, service and sacrifice can never be forgotten,” said Geoff Marinoff, director of transit. “We encourage our veterans to ride MiWay for free alone or with a companion, who they can identify to the transit operator.”

Veterans should either wear their uniforms, medals or carry items that identify them as veterans to transit operators on the day.

As a mark of respect to Canadian veterans, all transit operators will stop their buses for two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. on November 11.

Veterans may choose to ride MiWay to the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Mississauga Civic Centre. The ceremony will take place in front of the Community Memorial in the northwest corner of Mississauga Celebration Square. The ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. on November 11.

Riders can use the responsive Plan a Trip tool to plan their visit and get real-time information on when the bus will arrive at their stop.
