Spring into Earth Days 2022 Events for a Greener Mississauga

From Wednesday, April 13 to Saturday, April 23, the City of Mississauga is hosting a series of Earth Days events. These environmentally-focused events will educate residents on sustainable actions they can take to protect the environment while helping to make Mississauga more climate change resilient. Earth Days 2022 programming encourages residents to develop a greater understanding of low-carbon and environmentally-friendly practices.

Open Museum Virtual Event
Learn how to start your own vegetable garden and join a local artist to draw your own Earth Day inspired picture.

Growing a Seed Saving Garden Virtual Event
Learn how to space your garden plants apart for good seed-saving isolation, choose an assortment of varieties that will lend themselves to easy seed saving, and plan how many plants to grow for food and how many for harvesting seeds.

Electric Vehicle Charges Debut
Drop by and check out the City’s new public electric vehicle chargers located in the Water Street parking lot in Streetsville. City staff will be available to talk about electric vehicles and what the City is doing to reduce City fleet emissions and support electric vehicles in the community.

Organize a group of individuals to clean up a park or roadway in your community.

Free: Register and receive a litter clean-up kit by mail while supplies last

Can’t make an Earth Days 2022 event? Residents are encouraged to continue getting involved and help green Mississauga. Environmental actions residents can take at home include:

  • Eating a more plant-based diet or meat substitute
  • Starting the conversation about climate change with friends and family
  • Driving less or consider using an electric vehicle
  • Walking, cycling or taking transit
  • Planting trees
  • Growing or sourcing local food
  • Planting a rain garden
  • Hanging clothes to dry
  • Conserving more and wasting less
  • Replacing light bulbs with energy-efficient bulbs
  • Clearing storm drains of blockages

Earth Days 2022 furthers the actions set out in the City’s Climate Change Action Plan by educating residents about climate change action. The plan includes 21 key actions to be implemented by 2030, including meaningful engagement opportunities for residents.

Earth Days
Earth Days is an annual campaign featuring City initiatives and events delivered with the support of local partners that help educate residents on the importance of environmental sustainability. Events open to the public include One Million Trees and the 20-minute Makeover. Residents are encouraged to participate and take action to help reduce their environmental footprint.

One Million Trees
One Million Trees Mississauga is a 20-year program to encourage residents, schools, community groups and businesses to join the City’s tree planting efforts to plant more trees on both public and private lands in Mississauga.
