On behalf of the Mississauga City Council, we are saddened to hear of the news of the passing of former finance minister Jim Flaherty.
As finance minister, he brought Canada through the worldwide recession with flying colours.
Most recently, I had the pleasure of sitting beside him at the Ireland Fund of Canada luncheon at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
Mr. Flaherty served this country well and he will be sadly missed.
The flags at the Civic Centre and all City facilities have been lowered to half mast position.
