Mississauga has a new exhibit in town: Grounded. Showcasing how today’s artists turn everyday materials into something new, this exhibition is a great way to explore local creativity, while supporting local artists in developing and maintaining their craft. The exhibit will run from May 5 to 24 at the Living Arts Centre (LAC).
This exhibit is part of the City of Mississauga’s Resident Artist Program – offered annually at the LAC in professionally-equipped studio spaces, supporting nine disciplines for recent graduates of arts and design institutions, and emerging and mid-career artists. The program strengthens Mississauga’s creative community, advances the City’s Future Directions Culture Plan, while bringing arts and culture to more people.
Key benefits for artists include access to specialized equipment, professional development opportunities, networking and participating in an annual exhibition. These advantages help artists build sustainable practices, while increasing public access to their work and the arts.
The 2026 theme, Grounded, represents this year’s artists as key voices in contemporary practice. Their artwork explores how materials are transformed, highlighting the overlooked moments where new ideas can emerge.
Mississauga has become a creative hub through ongoing investment in cultural infrastructure, strong support for artists, and a commitment to exhibitions, education and community engagement.
The exhibit is free to the public and registration is not required. Visit the event calendar listing for more information. Artists interested in participating in the Resident Artist Program are encouraged to visit the webpage.
