Background on Susan Burt
Susan Burt joined the City of Mississauga in 1987. She held a variety of leadership roles in the Recreation Division, focussed on programming community development and business services.
In 2005, Susan was seconded to the Mayor’s Arts Review Task Force resulting in the formation of the City’s first Arts and Culture Division. This development acted as a catalyst for dramatic growth of Mississauga’s arts and culture sector.
As Director of Park Planning Development and Business Services in 2006, Susan led several strategic and business plans aimed at modernizing Recreation and Parks facilities in Mississauga.
Susan led the development of the City’s first-ever Culture Master Plan in 2008, as Mississauga’s second Director of Arts and Culture. The Culture Master Plan helped shape the direction of Mississauga’s significant cultural development.
Susan later assumed the role of Director of Strategic Community Initiatives, playing a key role in the development of the Inspiration Lakeview and Inspiration Port Credit Strategies before retiring in October 2016.
Following her passing in January 2020, Susan’s legacy to Mississauga was commemorated by the renaming of the Arts Studio at River Grove Community Centre in her honour.
