The Poetry Scene Heats up in Mississauga this Fall

The first in a trio of poetry events this fall includes a hands-on Haiku Poetry workshop delivered by Mississauga’s Poet Laureate Anna Yin.

Participants will learn haiku techniques through a variety of activities led by Anna Yin and Ottawa Poet Claudia Radmore (Haiku Canada).

Fall Poetry Readings

Poets and poetry fans alike will have a night to remember this September during the City’s first Poetry Night: Readings with Canadian Poets Laureate.

The evening will highlight Poets Laureate from across Ontario including the Parliamentary Poet Laureate of Canada, George Elliott Clarke. The event will include spoken word performances and a round robin of readings all focused on the theme of music, sports, film and life.

The event is hosted by Mississauga’s Poet Laureate, Anna Yin. Mississauga Youth Poet Laureate, Rebecca Zseder will open the evening with two additional youth poets performing their works.

  • Marty Gervais (Windsor);
  • John B. Lee (Brantford);
  • George Elliott Clarke (Parliamentary Poet Laureate, Canada); and

The evening will be chaired by Richard Greene, UTM professor and 2010 Governor General Award Winner for poetry.

Fall Poetry Workshops

Cooler temperatures won’t put a damper on the poetry scene in Mississauga this fall.

Mississauga’s first Youth Poet Laureate, Rebecca Zseder will lead a poetry workshop entitled Writing in the Wild on October 1 at Lake Aquitaine Park.

The workshop is an opportunity for aspiring young writers to learn how to write poetry through observation and to be inspired by the natural environment.
