Background

About Union Park

In 1957, Union Natural Gas Company of Canada (Union Gas) purchased the parcel of land from a resident and built a gas transmission facility on site which was operational in the 1960s. The property was acquired by the City from Union Gas in 2012. The City has transformed and developed the space into a new community park.

Union Park provides facilities geared at residents of all ages. Open turfed areas allow for creative play, while in the winter, the park features an area for tobogganing as well as hockey and pleasure skating rinks. Additional park features include:

  • a new playground
  • a shade structure;
  • walking paths;
  • a dog run;
  • two areas for community run natural ice rinks;
  • a multi-sport court, including basketball nets;
  • a water feature;
  • adult exercise stations; and
  • a skate park designed for junior users.
