Veterans can Ride MiWay for Free on August 21

City services | August 17, 2021

This Saturday, August 21, MiWay will offer free transit for Canadian Armed Forces veterans and their companions in honour of their service.

Each year, MiWay offers free transit to those who have served in the Canadian military on the day of the Warriors’ Day Parade. Although this year’s parade was cancelled again in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, MiWay will continue to honour this annual tradition. The parade has been held annually since 1921.

“We want to thank our veterans for the sacrifices they have made for our country,” said Geoff Marinoff, Director, Transit. “This pandemic doesn’t diminish what they have done for our country and we are pleased to offer them complimentary transit service on their Mississauga travels on Saturday, August 21.”

Veterans are asked to identify themselves to the transit operator by wearing their uniform, showing a medal or their Veteran’s Service Card. A companion accompanying a veteran may also ride for free.

Wearing a face mask is still required under City by-law when riding MiWay and in all indoor public spaces, including inside transit terminal buildings.
