Voting is Accessible

Local government | September 24, 2014

The City of Mississauga is ensuring that voting in the October 27 Municipal Election is accessible to people with disabilities. Voting is a right of everyone who is eligible to vote. There are safeguards in place to ensure voting in the upcoming election is accessible to everyone.

Places to Vote are Accessible
Polling places are inspected before Election Day to ensure they are accessible. That means that there are level entrances and doorways are wide enough for wheelchairs.

Mississauga is also setting up polling places at hospitals, long-term care and seniors’ homes to make sure everyone can vote. For more information about accessible polling places, call 905-615-VOTE.

Accessible Voting
Advance poll locations in Mississauga will have extra equipment to assist you. If you have low vision or a physical or cognitive disability that makes it difficult to vote, specially designed vote tabulators will be available. You can also bring someone to help you vote if you need to. Please ask for help at your polling location.
