With a score of 70.3 out of 100, Mississauga not only surpasses the national average but also outshines all other major urban centres across the country. On average, Canadians rate their level of happiness a 68.7 out of 100.

As a city of almost 800,000 residents, Mississauga’s ranking as Canada’s happiest major city reflects its vibrant, inclusive, and strong community well-being. Provinces were also ranked, and Quebec ranked number one on the Index, while Ontario ranked eighth.

The findings are based on a web survey of 39,841 Canadians aged 18 and older, conducted between March 31 and April 13, 2025, through LEO, Leger’s online panel. The results were weighted by gender, age, and province to ensure they are representative of the Canadian population.

  • Quebec is above the national average, scoring 72.4, while Prince Edward Island ranks last at 66.5.
