You Only Turn 150 Once – Celebrate this Canada Day in Style

It’s not just another Canada Day and the event on Mississauga Celebration Square isn’t just any event.

This year, the Square’s free Canada Day festivities, inspired by Canada’s 150th Anniversary, focuses on celebrating what connects us as Canadians. From food and music to art and heritage, residents and visitors are invited to be a part of the experience that brings us all together.

Join Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Members of Council as they kick-off Canada Day with a special Canada 150 Parade of Nations presented by Carassauga. This is followed by an Official Ceremony which includes a reaffirmation oath which allows attendees the opportunity to re-confirm their Canadian Citizenship.

Later on, join internationally-renowned JUNO Award winner K’NAAN on the main stage while he performs his hit Wavin’ Flag and many others.

Farah Nasser, Alan Carter, Jeff McArthur and Crystal Goomansingh from Global News will host the event which includes a full day of family-friendly entertainment.

• Neon Dreams – Electro-pop band from the east coast.
• DJ Shub – JUNO & Aboriginal Peoples’ Choice Music Award winner.
• Fito Blanko – Mississauga’s own Latin Grammy Award-nominated artist.
• Shobhit Banwait – YouTube sensation and fusion tabla drummer.
• Metis Fiddler Quartet – Presented in collaboration with the Peel Aboriginal Network.
• The Heavyweights Brass Band – Delivering big sound and feel-good music.
• JessGO – Brilliance Together live pop art performance.
• Glowing Hearts Drumline – Event house band.

Camp for Canuck Kids

2 to 6 p.m.

Start celebrating early with Camp Canuck presented by Toyota. Activities are geared towards families and kids of all ages and including:

• splashing around in the fountain to uncover Rain Works, the invisible public art inspired by Mississauga’s Poet Laureate Wali Shah;
• a visit to the SESQUI Pavilion. Mississauga is one of the stops on the Canada-wide SESQUI Virtual Reality (VR) Exhibition Tour. This VR experience features five-minute stories about Canadians who are shaping their world through creativity. Visitors can also make their own Sesquatch, exploring their identity in an interactive and playful way;
• take in live performances on the True North Busker Stage featuring encore performance by The Heavyweights Brass Band and extreme yo-yo performer YO-K;
• capture the day at the 360 degree photo booth;
• share some love by signing Canada’s Biggest Birthday Card; and
• enjoy Canadiana-inspired roaming stilt walkers and acrobats, face painters and crafts.

Important Event Information

Parking and Transportation

With limited access to available parking downtown, event goers are encouraged to carpool, walk, bike or take MiWay. Use MiWay’s Plan a Trip tool on any device at miway.ca/planatrip for customized route and schedule information to get to Celebration Square on time. MiWay will also offer additional trips from the City Centre Transit Terminal following the fireworks on the following routes: 3, 7, 10, 19, 23, 26, 34 and 61. Limited accessible parking is available at the 201 City Centre Dr. parking lot after 3 p.m. and in the Living Arts Centre underground parking lot.

Road Closures

There will be road closures in the downtown core from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on July 1. Areas impacted by the closures are outlined below. The road closure map can be downloaded here.

• Duke of York Boulevard from Burnhamthorpe Road W. to Prince of Wales Drive
• City Centre Drive from Living Arts Drive to Mercer Street

• Living Arts Drive from Burnhamthorpe Road W. to Prince of Wales Drive
