Family and intimate partner violence


Intimate partner violence is any pattern of behaviour used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. It includes all physical, sexual, emotional, economic, and psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person.

Intimate partner violence is an epidemic in Peel. It’s a widespread and growing public health concern and instances of violence are also more severe. Violence and abuse can lead to poor physical and mental health, serious injuries and even homicide.

Peel Region and partners offer support for people experiencing family and partner violence including emergency shelter.
