The green development standard is a set of design measures for developers. The measures make new buildings better for the environment, the community and the economy. They also help cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The City has updated our standard to meet goals in our Climate Change Action Plan. Council approved the update in April 2024.
As of October 1, 2026, all new residential and non-residential developments subject to site plan control must submit a completed Green Development Standard Checklist as part of a complete site plan application. The checklist helps encourage sustainable development practices.
Include any supporting information and documents you can, based on your project’s design stage and the information available when you apply.
The Tier 2 standard will be applied in 2028 and the Tier 3 standard in 2030.
