Micro-mobility rules and etiquette

All micro-mobility riders must follow these rules and etiquette.

For everyone’s safety, always be aware of surrounding traffic, and share roads and trails with other users.

You must be 16 years of age or older to use an e-bike or e-scooter.

Rental e-bikes or e-scooters have to be returned to designated parking areas near community centres, libraries, bus stops, park entrances and major intersections.

For e-bikes:

  • Riding with a passenger is not allowed unless your device is built for two.

For e-scooters:

  • Only single riders are allowed. Do not carry a passenger.

As of July 1, 2025, no e-bikes or e-scooters are allowed on MiWay buses.

It is illegal to ride an e-bike or e-scooter while under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Ontario.

By law:

  • All e-bike riders must wear a helmet.
  • All e-scooter users under 18 must wear a helmet. Regardless, all riders are encouraged to wear a helmet.

E-bikes can be used on:

  • Multi-use trails along roadways
  • Cycle tracks
  • Bike lanes
  • Park trails
  • Any roads, unless otherwise prohibited

E-scooters can be used on:

  • Multi-use trails along roadways
  • Cycle tracks
  • Bike lanes
  • Major paved park trails
  • Roads with a posted speed limit of 50 km/h or less

Approved park trails for e-scooter use include:

  • Cheechalk Trail
  • Civic View Walk
  • Cooksville Creek Trail
  • Etobicoke Creek Trail
  • Fletcher’s Creek Trail
  • Kogaydiwin Trail
  • Lisgar Meadow Brook Trail

  • Millgrove Trail

  • Shaver Trail
  • Sheridan Creek Trail
  • Sheridan Trail
  • Waterfront Trail

All trails and parks have signs at their points of entry. Check the rules on these signs before you ride. The following icons mean that e-bikes and e-scooters are allowed:

You cannot ride on sidewalks or enter controlled-access highways like the 403 or QEW.

The City updated its Parks By-lawTraffic By-law and Transit By-law to regulate where e-bikes and e-scooters can be operated in Mississauga.
