First-party and third-party cookies

Cookies set by the website owner (the City of Mississauga) are “first-party cookies”. Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are “third-party cookies”.

Third-party cookies enable third-party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website or service you’re using such as analytics, advertising and social media.

Analytics cookies

We allow third parties to use analytics cookies to understand how you use our websites so we can make them better.

These cookies can be used to gather information about the pages you visit and how many clicks you need to complete a task. Some analytics cookies are also used for advertising.

Advertising cookies

Advertising cookies are used to show you new advertisements by recording which ones you’ve already seen.

They’re also used to track which advertisements you click on, and to show you ads that are more relevant to your interests.

If you have questions about how the City of Mississauga uses cookies and your preferences, email digital.team@mississauga.ca.

Facebook Pixel

We also use the pixel function of Facebook Custom Audiences on some of our web pages to measure how effective our advertising is. Facebook pixel stores a cookie on your computer, which is used to help Facebook deliver advertising on the City’s behalf.

Information about your visit to our website is sent to Facebook, who uses it for analytics purposes. This allows Facebook to better target the ads you may see on digital platforms powered by Facebook Advertising.

If you have questions about the Facebook Pixel, email digital.team@mississauga.ca.
