Fall Leaf Pickup
During the Fall season only, the City's Transportation and Works Department provides
curbside/ditch vacuum leaf pickup in subdivisions that are more than 30 years old, and that
contain many mature trees.
This service ensures the roadway drainage ditches and catchbasins are cleared, reducing the
potential for flooding.
If your subdivision meets this service criteria, you will receive a direct-mail notice that
indicates when leaves will be vacuumed in your area.
For more information on the City's Leaf Pickup program, please call 3-1-1, or if outside
City limits, please call 905-615-4311 from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Leaves in all other areas of Mississauga are collected by the Region of Peel under the yard
waste collection program.
Yard Waste Collection by the Region of Peel
Place yard waste at the curb on your regular collection day by the Region of Peel.
Leaves may be placed in open reusable containers such as bushel baskets, rigid plastic
containers or paper yard waste bags (NO PLASTIC BAGS). Do not place leaves in recycling
boxes.
The Region of Peel typically collects yard waste until the end of the third week in
November.
For more information on yard waste collection, please call the Region of Peel's WASTELINE at
905-791-9499.
Compost Your Leaves
Compost your leaves by adding them to your compost piles or spread leaves around the base of
your trees. The leaves will mulch to act as a buffer against extreme temperature changes and to
fertilize soil. Remember oak leaves are difficult to compost.
