The City’s Noise Control By‑law prohibits noise that causes a disturbance to residents in their homes. After noise is reported, the City will:

1. Review and prioritize the report based on its likelihood to reoccur and its impact to residents.
2. Determine if an onsite investigation by an enforcement officer is required to proceed with the case.

If you break Noise Control By-law regulations, you may be subject to a fine of up to $100,000.

Noise types you can report to the City

We respond to reports about the following noise types heard outside permitted times outlined in the Noise Control By-law.

Commercial construction noise

Unless an exemption has been granted, noise from commercial construction work is permitted Monday to Saturday (except on statutory holidays) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Recreational and event noise

Live music

Live music includes acoustic and amplified performances with singing or musical instruments. Recorded music, such as DJs without live performance, is not considered live music. Live music must comply with all applicable licence and permit requirements.

In Cultural Districts, live music is allowed during designated hours at:

• Licensed restaurants, night clubs and banquet halls,
• City-approved seasonal or long-term patios
• City-approved events in parks or public spaces operating under a special event licence, outdoor community event permit or rental contract

In residential areas:

• Amplified live music is allowed everyday between 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Acoustic live music is allowed on Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Other recreational noise

Yelling and shouting from parties, children playing, sports, events and non-amplified musical instruments are allowed on:

• Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Sundays and statutory holidays from  9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Residential noise

The following residential noises are permitted from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day of the week:

• Music or audio from radios, speakers, television and stereos
• Sound of powered or non-powered tools for domestic maintenance, such as lawn mowers and grass trimmers
• Sound of animals and pets barking, whining or calling

Domestic disputes

If noise is caused by domestic disputes, yelling or moving vehicles, call Peel Regional Police to report it:

• Non-emergencies: 905‑453‑3311

Trains

If the noise is caused by train whistling, call the following:
