Employment survey

The City has conducted an annual employment survey since 2001. We ask business owners, administrators and organizational leaders across Mississauga to participate by providing key business information.

The information collected tells the City about growth, trends and changes. It helps us support the business community, shape economic strategies, guide policy, and inform infrastructure and service planning. We do this to ensure Mississauga remains a place where businesses can succeed.

2026 Employment Survey

The 2026 Employment Survey is now open for businesses to participate. The online survey only takes a few minutes to complete.

Take survey

Between May and August, the City surveys businesses across Mississauga using a variety of methods, including phone calls, emails and in-person site visits. During this time, by post-secondary students surveyors will be visiting businesses throughout the city. Businesses that complete the survey online will not receive an in-person visit.

Sharing information about your business

By taking the survey, businesses help the City gain valuable insights about the economic sectors and employment trends across Mississauga. This information will support and guide decision-making related to future economic development that will benefit residents and local businesses.

Business directory

When filling the survey, each business provides consent to have their general information listed publicly in the business directory, free of charge.

The directory includes almost 14,600 businesses from different economic sectors. These include retail, services, health care, manufacturing, accommodation, professional services, real estate and more.

Business that choose to be part of the directory increase their visibility, making it easier for potential clients and customers to find them.

The survey responses provide the City and other organizations with important information on businesses and employment opportunities in Mississauga.

It collects:

  • Business name
  • Business address
  • Business activity
  • Number of employees and employee type
  • Contact information

The information is used to:

  • Shape the City’s Economic Development Strategy, positioning Mississauga as a global leader in economic growth
  • Build meaningful connections with the business community to inform sector-based strategies
  • Inform the City’s growth forecast to support businesses with the necessary services and infrastructure to thrive in Mississauga
  • Respond to internal and external data requests about the composition of Mississauga’s employment base and business community

Only aggregated data and analysis is posted to the City’s web page for the public to view. Personal information is not shared or published.

Information provided by businesses that choose not to be a part of the business directory is treated as confidential. It is only used internally.

Businesses that choose to be a part of the business directory have the following information published online:

  • Business name
  • Business address
  • Business activity
  • Employment range and type
  • Contact information

The employment survey is a point-in-time survey based on voluntary participation. The data and results may not reflect the most current circumstances, particularly in industries experiencing rapid and frequent changes.
