Overview

Mississauga’s downtown area is a growing community that’s expected to double in size by 2041. To meet the needs of the growing community, existing community spaces will be reimagined, including the redevelopment and repurposing of existing City-owned lands and facilities.

Mississauga Valley Community Centre and Library serves the downtown area and is the City’s largest community centre, at roughly 142,000 square feet. It was constructed in 1977 and renovated in 2004. The parkland surrounding the community centre is a roughly 50-acre site owned by the City.

The 2024 Future Directions Plans identified Mississauga Valley Community Centre and Library as a key opportunity to support future growth in the downtown area. The plan proposes redeveloping the site into a more urban community centre and using the site more efficiently to help meet the City’s housing priorities.

Currently, the community centre and library have the following amenities:

  • Aquatics centre
  • Fitness centre and studio
  • Gymnasium
  • Indoor arena
  • Library and related programming areas
  • Licensed spaces
  • Lobby, offices, changerooms, and auxiliary spaces
  • Multi-purpose spaces
  • Squash courts

From 2026 to 2028, the City will design the Mississauga Valley Community Centre and Library so it is ready for construction.

The City will work with the consultant team to determine the facility amenities, size and design of the new community centre and library that will service the community and surrounding neighbourhoods. Construction costs are not yet budgeted.

Public engagement

In June 2026, residents will be invited to provide feedback through an engagement survey on the proposed design for the redevelopment. The survey will help identify which indoor and outdoor amenities are most important to the community.

A community presentation and information session will take place in 2027 where further details about the redeveloped facility will be provided.
