Apply for an amusement arcade licence

You need a licence to run an amusement arcade in Mississauga.

An amusement arcade provides amusement devices to the public.

An amusement device is a coin-operated machine that uses pin balls, electronic impulse or any other means to provide a game or activity that amuses the user. A mechanical ride isn’t an amusement device.

There are two types of amusement arcade licences:

  • Class A where the main business is providing the use of amusement devices to the public
  • Class B where the main business is something else but one or more amusement devices are available to the public, such as a restaurant or pub

Your licence expires annually, one year from the date it’s issued. A renewal notice will be sent to your email address. If no email is available, it’ll be mailed to you.

Requirements

You must be 18 years of age or older to apply. You also must provide the following documents and approvals:

  • Articles of incorporation or corporate profile report
  • Business name registration or Franchise Agreement
  • Government-issued identification card, driver’s licence or Canadian passport
  • Zoning Certificate of Occupancy (a minor variance or building permit may be required)
  • Proof of general liability insurance coverage of at least $2 million
  • Letter of authorization signed by the director, owner or business partners assigning an agent or contact to act on behalf of the business. This is required if a director, owner or business partner isn’t available.
  • Number of devices on the premises (must be updated when changes occur)

A licence renewal costs $366.35.
