The City of Mississauga is advising residents and visitors of traffic disruptions this weekend due to the Khalsa Day (Nagar Kirtan) Parade in Malton. Mississauga will welcome thousands of participants on Sunday, May 3, 2026, as the annual Khalsa Day (Nagar Kirtan) Parade takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along a 10‑kilometre route with seven stopovers. This celebration is part of Vaisakhi, which marks the birth of the Sikh faith and the start of the Sikh New Year.

This celebration may impact traffic on some roads in the Malton community. Alternate routes will be available.

Parade route

The parade will begin at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Malton and will end at Sikh Spiritual Centre Toronto in Etobicoke. Please note, this year’s route has been updated to include a turn on Darcel Avenue.

Starting at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara (7280 Airport Rd., Mississauga), the parade will head east on Morningstar Drive, turn left on Darcel Avenue, turn right on Finch Avenue, turn left on Woodbine Downs Boulevard, turn right on Carrier Drive, ending at the Sikh Spiritual Centre Toronto (9 Carrier Dr., Etobicoke).

Planning ahead

Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid delays. If you live or drive in the Malton area, consider leaving extra travel time and using alternate routes. As the area will be busy, consider walking, biking or taking transit.

If you rely on MiWay, check route alerts before you leave and while you’re travelling, as detours and stop closures can change as the parade moves.

Road closures

Road closures will be in effect along parts of the parade route. Closures are expected to begin late morning and remain in place until early evening, with roads reopening progressively as the parade moves and streets are cleared. Road closures are expected along parts of the parade route, including:

Full road closures:

  • Airport Road between Derry Road and Slough Street from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Morningstar Drive between Airport Road and Goreway Drive from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • Morningstar Drive between Goreway Drive and Darcel Avenue from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Goreway Drive between Brandon Gate Drive and Goliffe Avenue from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Darcel Avenue between Morningstar Drive and Finch Avenue from 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Finch Avenue between Steeles Avenue and Highway 27 from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Alternate routes

During road closures, residents and visitors travelling east–west may wish to use Derry Road, Rexdale Boulevard or Belfield Road. For north–south travel, consider Dixie Road, Weston Road or Highway 427.

Drivers should follow on‑site police and traffic‑control directions and watch for posted detour signs. Vehicles must park in designated parking areas only. Illegally parked vehicles can block access for emergency responders and may result in a parking ticket or towing.

For the most up-to-date information on road closure updates, please check Peel Regional Police or the Region of Peel.

MiWay service updates and detours

Several MiWay routes will be temporarily detoured on Sunday, May 3, due to road closures related to the parade.

Impacted routes include:

  • 7 Airport
  • 11 Westwood
  • 16A Malton
  • 22 Finch
  • 42 Derry
  • 107 Malton Express

Routes 7, 11, 42 and 107 will board at a temporary stop on Etude Dr. at Goreway Dr.

MiWay Services Schedule for the Khalsa Day Parade

Some bus stops within the closure area may be missed until roads reopen. Riders may need to walk to temporary stops outside the detour zone. Service will return to normal as the parade progresses and roads reopen.

Transit users should check MiWay service updates and route alerts before leaving and throughout the day, as detours and stop locations may change.

For the most up-to-date information on transit impacts, check MiWay service updates or use the Trip Planner.

Safety and accessibility

Keep fire routes clear and do not block intersections, crosswalks, bike lanes or bus stops. If you use mobility devices or need an accessible route, consider travelling before peak closure times and allow extra time for crossing major roads.

In an emergency or if you see a dangerous situation, call 911.
