Overview
In 2023, the City of Mississauga, in partnership with the Region of Peel, completed its review on the appropriateness of converting three employment sites to allow for a broader mix of uses, including residential, to meet the growing need for more homes in Mississauga.
- Site 1: Near Lisgar GO Station, located in the Meadowvale Business Park Corporate Centre
- Sites 2 and 3: Along Burnhamthorpe Road West, located in the Mavis-Erindale Employment Area
The evaluation assessed the following:
- Potential impacts on nearby communities
- The continued viability of the surrounding employment area
On July 1st, 2024, under the Planning Act, regional planning responsibilities transferred to local municipalities and the City became the approval authority for employment area conversions.
In September 2024, City staff brought forward a report recommending removal of Sites 1 and 2 from the Employment Area and minimum requirements for the phasing of development, maintaining non-residential floor space, transportation, affordable housing and land use compatibility.
On March 24, 2026, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing approved a new Official Plan for the City of Mississauga containing policies for Sites 1 and 2. For Site 1, the new Official Plan requires further engagement with the community to develop a master plan that will help shape future development.
