Overview

As part of the Cooksville Parkland Long Term Acquisition(External link), the City has been purchasing properties for parkland in the Cooksville area to help address the parkland deficit.

The 8 hectares (20 acres) of newly acquired properties have been added to Cooksville Park and Iggy Kaneff Park creating larger, more connected parkland in the Cooksville area. These two expanded parks are now ready for redevelopment.

The parks will be redeveloped to provide new park space, features and amenities, and replace aging infrastructure. The project will improve the parkland experience, increase accessibility and flood resiliency, and integrate and enhance the natural areas within the Cooksville Creek corridor.

Public engagement

During Phase 1 of public engagement, the City asked residents what park features and improvements they wanted to be considered in the expansion and redevelopment. The feedback received will inform the preliminary park program and the conceptual park design that is currently underway.

Phase 2 of public engagement will start in 2026. During this phase, the City will be reaching out to seek feedback on the conceptual park design.
