Apply for an outdoor community event permit

To host an outdoor event in one of our parks, you must get a permit and approval for certain event activities. The City’s Outdoor Events Team will help coordinate the approval process for all permits and activities.

Activities like demonstrations, rallies and vigils don’t require an event permit. They are reviewed by the City’s Security Services Team.

Event classifications

All events in parks require the same permit, but the way your event is classified helps determine how far in advance we’ll begin coordinating approval for your permit and planned activities.

Perfect for local community groups hosting low-risk activities. Events are short, simple and community focused requiring picnic shelters only.

If you’re planning a small gathering and only need to reserve a picnic shelter or park space for personal use, such as a birthday party, family picnic or informal meetup, you do not need to go through this process.

Attendance: Between 1,000 and 5,000 people per day

Perfect for community events with moderate setup and attendance. These events include vendors or live elements.

An event coordinator from the City starts working with you 90 days prior to the event.

Typical features:

  • Small stage or sound system
  • Food or merchandise vendors
  • Tents or temporary structures
  • Possible parking lot usage

Examples:

  • Cultural or heritage festival
  • Live performances or dance shows
  • Fundraisers with vendors

Attendance: Over 5,000 people per day

Perfect for major events that serve the broader community or city. These events are highly visible and require early planning and detailed coordination. 

An event coordinator from the City starts working with you 120 days prior to the event.

Typical features:

  • Road closures or full site usage
  • Large stage, lighting and sound
  • Alcohol service or fireworks
  • Significant city or sponsor involvement

Events with an expected peak attendance of 50,000 people per day or more should notify the Outdoor Events Team at least one year in advance of the event by email at  saugacelebrates@mississauga.ca.

How to apply for a permit

Request the park for your event:

Once we receive your request, we’ll contact you and issue a Tentative Facility Rental Permit. This secures the reservation while your permit is being formally approved.

Complex or large-scale events may require additional review time.

If your event includes any of the following, tell the customer service representative so your request can be referred to an event coordinator on the Outdoor Events Team:

  • Amplified sound or live entertainment
  • Tents larger than 10’x10’, six or more 10’x10’ tents, temporary tent structures greater than 60 square metres
  • Temporary stage structures with a height more than three metres
  • Food or merchandise vendors
  • Fireworks or pyrotechnics
  • Inflatable amusements or rides
  • Open flames or fire pits
  • Alcohol service or sales
  • Generators or electrical connections
  • Road closures or parades
  • Commercial drones or aerial devices
  • Animals or petting zoos
  • Filming or photography with tripods/drones with commercial intent
  • Face painting, buskers
  • National or international headline performances

Review your Tentative Facility Rental Permit to make sure all the information is correct.

Once you’ve confirmed it’s correct, you can make the payment by the permit’s expiry date located in the top right corner of the first page.

Pay by phone

Call (905) 615-4100 extension 2 to pay by credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express).

Pay in person

Visit any City of Mississauga community centre to pay using cash, debit, credit card, money order, certified cheque or personal cheque (if your event is more than 14 days away).

Pay online

Log into your account at activemississauga.ca to pay. Then email facility.rentals@mississauga.ca to confirm your payment and finalize your contract.

Pay by cheque

Make cheques payable to The City of Mississauga and include your contract number in the memo. Drop it off at any community centre or mail it to:

Application requirements, such as insurance, site plans or noise exemptions, vary by event and event activities. Any requirements for your event will be defined during the application review process.

The assigned event coordinator will:

  • Contact you within the timelines given by the customer service representative when you receive your tentative facility rental permit
  • Collect your event details
  • Provide a customized event checklist
  • Schedule a meeting to guide you through the next steps

Depending on the size and complexity of your event, your application may be reviewed by our Special Events Advisory Team (SEAT), a committee of City departments and external partners, such as fire, police and security.

If required, your event coordinator will:

  • Submit your event to SEAT
  • Guide you through feedback and requirements
  • Schedule a meeting to finalize planning

You must complete all required documentation before your permit is formally approved, and your event can take place. This may include:

  • Site plans and permits
  • Security and emergency planning
  • Insurance
  • Vendor and food safety forms
  • Noise exemption or fireworks approvals
  • Special Event Mobile Licence

Your event coordinator will guide you through your event checklist to make sure everything is submitted on time.

Once all application submissions are complete and approved, you will receive a permit with all the approved activities printed on it as “Approved conditions of use.”

Rules for using City parks

All public amenities in City parks, including splash pads, playgrounds, trails and pathways, must stay open and accessible during your event. These features are shared community spaces and event setup cannot block or limit public access.
