Citizen Members Appointed to Governance Committee

At the May 13 Council meeting, City Council passed a resolution naming the new members of the Governance Committee. In April, Council made the decision to extend the membership of the Governance Committee to include citizens.

Council put the call out for two citizens to become members of the committee which is chaired by Councillor Pat Saito, Ward 9. Other members include: Councillor Jim Tovey Ward 1; Councillor Karen Ras Ward 2; Councillor Carolyn Parrish Ward 5 ; Councillor Ron Starr Ward 6 and the Mayor (ex-officio member).

The citizen members appointed to the Governance Committee for the 2014-2018 term of office are:

  1. Sandra Milakovic, Ward 1 resident
  2. John Magill, Ward 2 resident

According to the committee’s Terms of Reference  its mandate is to examine issues related to, but not limited to: committee structures and procedures; policies and procedures governing Council members; policies and procedures governing elections; and policies and procedures regarding transparency and accountability to the public and the role and recruitment of the Integrity Commissioner.
The committee will meet five times a year or as determined by the chair. The next Governance Committee is scheduled for Monday, May 25 and like all committees of council, open to the public. Learn more about all the City’s committees.
