City Announces New Finance Director and Treasurer

The City of Mississauga has appointed Craig Millar as Director, Finance and Treasurer effective November 3, 2014.

Reporting to the Commissioner, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer Gary Kent, Craig will be responsible for a portfolio that includes: business planning and budgeting; financial planning and policy; and city-wide financial services such as payroll and payables; investment management; accounting and financial reporting.

“I’m delighted to have Craig on our team.  He brings solid financial experience and business acumen to the position and is well positioned to work with Council, the community and staff to ensure we continue to have strong financial controls and the right information at the right time to make informed decisions, ” said Gary Kent.

Craig has been the acting Director, Finance for the City since April.  He has over 19 years of professional experience including eight years in municipal government including the Region of York and the City of Barrie as well as 11 years in the private sector.  In his previous role as Deputy Treasurer for the City of Barrie, Craig was successful in leading the corporate business planning and budget process, updating the City’s long range financial plan and development charge background studies.

Craig holds a chartered professional accountant (CPA) designation through the amalgamation of Certified General Accountants (CGA) of Ontario.  He graduated with a Master of Business Administration from Laurentian University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Toronto.
