Parking exemption for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

Council approved a motion to extend the 5-hour on-street parking exemption to include Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, recognizing their significance for the Jewish community in Mississauga.

Key points of the motion

  1. The City will waive the five-hour on-street parking restriction from 8 a.m. to midnight during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in 2025 and 2026, with dates to be updated annually.
  2. For Rosh Hashanah 2025, the exemption applies from Monday, September. 22 to Wednesday, September. 24; for 2026, from Friday, September. 11 to Sunday, September. 13.
  3. For Yom Kippur 2025, the exemption applies on Wednesday, October. 1 and Thursday, October. 2; for 2026, on Sunday, September. 20 and Monday, Sept. 21.

Review of rental rates at major parks, arenas and theatres

Council approved a motion to review and compare rental rates at major parks, arenas and theatres including the Living Arts Centre and Paramount Centre. The motion is in response to community groups and sports events relocating to neighbouring municipalities due to lower facility rental costs.

Key points of the motion

  1. Staff will prepare financial statements, rental bookings, and net profits and losses for both the Living Arts Centre and Paramount Centre since the City’s takeover.
  2. Staff will conduct benchmarking of rental fees for the Living Arts Centre, Paramount Centre and other major parks and facilities, comparing them with similar facilities in surrounding GTA municipalities.
  3. Council directed staff to include in its report reference to the work already underway in adjusting traffic management.

Director appointed to Cooksville BIA board

Council approved a motion to update the Board of Management for the Cooksville Business Improvement Area (BIA), in accordance with the Municipal Act and the City’s governance by-laws.

Key points of the motion

  1. Council appointed Bernie Torchia as Director of the Board of Management of the Cooksville Business Improvement Area, effective April 16, 2025.
  2. The appointment follows notification from the Cooksville BIA to the City Clerk’s Office, as required by the Cooksville BIA Governance By-law 0035-2020.
  3. The update ensures compliance with Section 204(3) of the Municipal Act, 2001 and maintains effective governance of the BIA.
