Council approved a revised transition date for municipal waste collection services, moving the transfer of authority from the Region of Peel to the City of Mississauga to October 1, 2027, instead of the previously planned January 1, 2026.
1. The new transition date aligns with the start of municipal waste collection contracts, supporting a seamless transfer of services.
2. The change avoids overlap with the launch of the producer-led recycling program under Blue Box Regulation, which begins January 1, 2026.
3. City staff will report back to Council by June 2026 with an updated implementation plan.
4. An extended timeline allows for proper staff onboarding, IT system development, and operational planning.
