Level up your ride: Back-to-school transit tips

Heading to school, college or university? MiWay offers routes, fare options and travel tips for a safe, easy and affordable trip.

City services | September 8, 2026

A new school year means new classes, new schedules, and for many students, new ways of getting around.

Back-to-school season is one of the busiest times of the year on the road. To help you travel safely and conveniently, MiWay offers routes to schools across Mississauga, affordable fares and simple ways to make every trip more comfortable.

Here’s what you need to know as you start the school year.

Unlock your route to school

MiWay routes connect to schools, colleges and universities across the city.

Starting September 7, Route 110 University Express runs more often between City Centre Transit Terminal and Clarkson GO Station. As part of this change, Route 110A University Express has been discontinued, with service merging with Route 110 University Express.

Regular post-secondary and secondary school service resumes:

  • 44 Mississauga Road
  • 126 Burnhamthorpe Express
  • All 300-series secondary school routes

A new secondary school route, 305 Streetsville SS, has been introduced, operating between Meadowvale Village and Streetsville Secondary School.

Plan your trip with routes for post-secondary students and high school students.

Score free rides with PRESTO loyalty program

The more you ride, the more you save. When you pay with PRESTO, you’re automatically enrolled in the loyalty program, making it easier to manage transportation costs throughout the school year.

How it works

  • Use the same PRESTO card (physical or digital) to pay your MiWay fares.
  • Ride 11 times on MiWay in a single week (Monday through Sunday) to unlock free rides for the rest of that week.
  • Start fresh each Monday when the fare cap resets.

For regular riders, the loyalty program can be more flexible and cost-effective than a monthly pass. Find more information about fare prices for youth ages 13 to 19.

If you’re a UTM student, you qualify for a U-Pass, which provides unlimited travel on MiWay during the school year.

Ride like a pro: Bus etiquette tips

Become a transit pro this school year. Just like in any game, a great experience depends on how players work together.

Small acts of courtesy can make every trip safer, smoother and more comfortable for everyone. Using headphones, moving to the back of the bus and making room for others helps everyone enjoy the ride.

Follow these simple etiquette tips.

Power up your school-day planning

Taking a few minutes to prepare can help make the school commute easier. Use MiWay’s trip planning tool to check schedules, find the best routes and stay informed about service changes as you head to class.

Back-to-school season also means busier roads and sidewalks. Help keep everyone safe by staying alert and following road safety guidelines when walking, cycling, driving or riding transit.
