Residents can Participate in the City’s 2016 Budget Process

Starting on June 10 with its first meeting, Mississauga’s Budget Committee will begin the process of reviewing the 2016 Business Plan and City Budget. The Budget is the document that outlines how City resources are spent to support programs/services and advance the Strategic Plan.

Public Engagement
Budget Committee meetings will have dedicated time for residents, businesses, special interest groups and taxpayers to provide input in the budget process. Residents can attend the budget meetings or watch them live via the City’s websitemeetings are also archived so they can be viewed any time.

Get involved in the budget process:

First Budget Committee
On June 10, Finance staff will present an overview of the City’s current and projected finances and outline the timelines for upcoming Budget Committee meetings and public engagement activities. BMA Consulting Inc. will also present a financial outlook of the City’s framework of a new long-range financial plan. The plan, expected to be presented to Council in the fall, outlines how the City will manage long-term growth while continuing to provide high quality services to residents.

Budget Committee Presentations/Schedule
During the scheduled 2016 Budget Committee meetings, City staff will present their current service levels, cost pressures, efficiencies and new initiatives. Once the Committee approves the proposed budget, it will go to Council for approval.
Budget Committee meetings will include:

  • Business Plan Update and 2016 Budget Overview
  • Service Area Presentations
  • Deputations from members of the public or organizations
