Two Weeks Notice – Automated Speed Enforcement Cameras Go Live on July 5

City services | June 21, 2021

The first Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras in Mississauga will go live two weeks from today, on July 5. Signs were installed on Morning Star Drive and Sawmill Valley Drive in early April to allow for a 90-day advance notice period for residents.

The ASE cameras are located in newly-designated 30-kilometres per hour ‘school area community safety zones’ where speeding has proven to be a consistent problem. These cameras help to encourage drivers to obey the posted speed limit – making the streets safer for everyone.

How ASE works

When a vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit in an ASE area, the ASE system captures an image. Then, a provincial offences officer reviews the image and issues a ticket. The ticket includes a set fine that is based on the vehicle’s rate of speed over the speed limit when the image was taken. The ticket, including a digital copy of the image and an enlargement of the license plate, is mailed to the registered plate holder within 30 days of the offence.

Tickets are issued to the owner of the vehicle regardless of who was driving. No demerit points will be issued and the registered owner’s driving record will not be impacted.

ASE camera locations

The first two ASE camera locations are:

  • Ward 5: Morning Star Drive (between Lancaster Avenue and Netherwood Road)
  • Ward 8: Sawmill Valley Drive (between Folkway Drive and Grosvenor Place)

These cameras will rotate to new locations on a monthly basis. The next four ASE locations are:

  • Mississauga Valley Boulevard between Voltarie Crescent and Silver Creek Boulevard (Ward 4)
  • Whitehorn Avenue between Weir Chase and Pickwick Drive (Ward 6)
  • Cedar Creek Drive between Runningbrook Drive and Lexicon Drive (Ward 3)
  • Old Derry Road between Second Line West and Gooderham Estate Boulevard (Ward 11)

On May 19, Council approved a motion to have 20 additional ASE cameras installed in 2021. As more ASE cameras are installed, their locations will be listed on the City’s webpage: mississauga.ca/ASE.
