New Sportsplex gymnasium

Construction to build a new double gymnasium at the Centre’s Sportsplex facility began in July 2024. The gymnasium will:

  • Be the primary practice court for the Raptors 905 G League franchise and some community user groups
  • Provide community user groups more access and opportunity in the existing triple gymnasium

This addition was made possible by a joint partnership with the Raptors 905/Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE).

The grand opening of the gymnasium took place on March 14, 2026 and was celebrated by City staff, officials, members of MLSE and the Raptors 905.

Background

Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre opened in October 1998. The facility’s former names include the Hershey Centre and Paramount Fine Foods Centre. It is home to the Mississauga Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League and the Raptors 905 of the NBA G League (the official minor league of the NBA). To date, it has hosted more than 3,000 event days and welcomed more than four million guests.

While the facility has undergone various expansions and minor improvements over the span of 20 years, the original main arena remained the same. This project addressed deficiencies in the main arena and helped improve the overall guest experience for a variety of events, including sports games, competitions, ceremonies, concerts and community events.
