School Streets create a temporary, car-free environment in front of a school during drop-off and/or pickup times. This creates safe, community-friendly spaces for students and their parents or guardians walking and cycling to and from school.
School Streets:
- Improve road safety
- Reduce traffic congestion
- Create opportunities for kids to be active
- Encourage active travel to school
- Benefit mental health and focus at school
- Improve air quality at and around schools
- Build community
The School Streets pilot project is an approved action (action 90) in the Vision Zero Action Plan. It will help Mississauga reach our goal of zero fatal and serious collisions on the road network.
