2025 pilot
To help understand how the project is working, in May 2025, a research team from Toronto Metropolitan University collected traffic counts, observations and survey responses in the area. They returned in the fall to repeat the same work. This allowed them to compare how people were traveling before and after School Street was put in place.
Results from before and after School Streets at Corliss Public School:
- More students walking and less reliance on cars
- An increase in yielding and speed compliance
The pilot took place at Corliss Public School from September 2 to October 20, 2025. Corliss Crescent was closed between Darla Drive and Teeswater Road Monday to Friday during the following times:
- 8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. for morning drop-off
- 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. for afternoon pickup

2022 pilot
Three Mississauga schools participated in the first School Streets pilot project in 2022:
- Hillside Public School
- St. Alfred Catholic Elementary School
- Brian W. Fleming Public School
The project included closures along Kelly Road and Havenwood Drive:
The pilot took place at Hillside Public School from May 9 to 27, 2022. Kelly Road was closed between Constable Road and Brookhurst Road Monday to Friday during the following times:
- 8:15 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. for morning drop-off
- 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. for afternoon pickup

After the pilot ended, a survey found that the majority of community members supported the initiative. We also found that School Streets were an effective tool for increasing active school transportation.
