Corliss Public School

Update as of October 22, 2025: The School Streets program at Corliss Public School is paused. The City will work with the community to re-evaluate and determine next steps for the program. Further updates will be shared as they become available.

Corliss Crescent will be closed between Darla Drive and Teeswater Road for morning and afternoon bells on all school days for the 2025-2026 school year.

  • Drop-off closures are from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m.
  • Pickup closures are from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.

You will be allowed to pass through the closure area by car only if you live within it. You must drive at a slow speed and pay close attention to children and other pedestrians on the road.

As part of the project evaluation, the City conducted traffic counts in the area in May 2025. The City will conduct additional traffic counts and observations throughout the 2025-2026 school year to monitor traffic patterns at different points in the project.

Outreach and engagement

In 2025, the City convened a project planning team of local community members to plan the project together.

Staff have gone door to door to deliver letters and resident information packages to residents on streets within and directly adjacent to the closure area.

A soft launch took place on Friday, June 20, in coordination with a Family Fun Day at Corliss Public School.

What to expect during closures

During the School Street, parents and caregivers will not be able to drive directly to Corliss Public School. (Exceptions will be made for families with special accessibility needs. Speak to your school principal for access, if needed.)

To plan ahead, review your route to school using the Routes to School Planner map for your schoolIf you normally drive to school, consider:

  • Walking, riding a bike or scooter, or travelling by another active mode
  • Parking at a location 5 to 10 minutes from the school and walking the remaining distance
  • Carpooling to reduce the number of vehicles on the surrounding streets

Delivery drivers will not be allowed to enter the closure area. They may park outside the closure area and complete their delivery on foot, or they can return later.

Waste pickup will take place on regularly scheduled days, but times may shift to accommodate closure windows.

Weather considerations

Families are encouraged to walk and roll to school in all kinds of weather, making sure to dress according to the weather. The School Streets program will not be cancelled due to rain or snow unless:

  • Thunder or lightning is forecasted or observed within 40 minutes of the start of the School Street program
  • There is extreme cold weather, such as -20 degrees or colder with or without the windchill, in line with cold weather guidelines from Peel Public Health
  • Snow or ice are creating dangerous travel conditions such as when Student Transportation Of Peel Region cancels buses for the day
  • Other extreme weather occurs

The Corliss Public School principal will notify families by phone and email as soon as the cancellation has been confirmed.
